The Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) is monitoring the progress of a tropical wave in the Atlantic that has a 20 % chance of developing into a tropical system within the next two (2) days and a 70% probability of development within the next five (5) days.
Please note, that although, 70% is considered a high probability that this system could develop into a tropical depression. As it stands, at the moment the system is still a tropical wave. The DMCA is urging residents to be vigilant and to review their personal hurricane plans and be ready in the event this system should impact Montserrat. SYNOPSIS A broad low pressure system located about 1000 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands continues to produce a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Only gradual development of this system is expected for the next day or so while it moves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph. Environmental conditions could become more supportive by Saturday and a tropical depression is likely to form over the weekend, several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles. * Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent. * Formation chance through 5 days...high...70 percent.
