The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season starts June 1st amid the challenges posed by social distancing guidelines put in place to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic on Montserrat. Therefore, preparing for a storm or hurricane this year will be different as a result of the current coronavirus challenges.

You’re probably asking many questions like: How can I repair my roof and leaking windows while maintaining social distancing? What would a hurricane shelter look like if we’re avoiding crowds?

While we all hope that the threat of coronavirus will be over by June 1st, we must prepare for the worst and have a plan.

Therefore, the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) is urging everyone to start preparing their homes and businesses for the hurricane season.

We are going to have to get creative in our preparedness efforts. And the time to start thinking about this is now.

Sixteen named storms, including eight hurricanes, are forecast for the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, according to by experts at Colorado State University in the USA.

Four of the hurricanes will become major storms of Category 3 to 5, with sustained winds of at least 111 mph.

Dealing with the current COVID-19 pandemic is quite challenging and exhausting, but we cannot let our guards down. You can rebuild your home, but you cannot rebuild your life.
