According to the agency’s Director Major Alvin Ryan the aim of the meeting was to assess individual Ministries and Departments preparedness, challenges and building resilience ahead of the start of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season which officially begins on June 1st.
The meeting was chaired by His Excellency, the Governor, Andy Pearce.
Major Ryan reported that Montserrat has a significant amount of relief supplies in the event the island should be impacted to assist with our recovery.
He disclosed that island’s electrical resilience has been boosted with the acquisition of a Bucket truck, derrick and additional generators,
Mr Ryan says an assessment of Hurricane Shelters on island have been conducted to ensure they are ready for the season.
A number of issues were raised by attendees, ahead of the Hurricane Season which will be dealt with in the incoming weeks.
The conference was attended by representatives from the Public Works Department, Port Authority, Police, Montserrat Search and Rescue, Office the Premier, John A Osborne Airport, Governor’s Office, Montserrat Defense Force, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture among others.
The 2019 National Hurricane Conference will be held in early June .
