Tropical Storm Bret forms in the central Atlantic Ocean, becoming the second named storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season -Residents on Montserrat should complete their hurricane plans and be prepared to start to implement them.

According to a statement issued by the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services at 11:58 am Monday, June 19, 2023, the system could bring locally heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds. The specific amount would depend on the intensity, size, eventual track and forward speed of this system. Hence, a hurricane watch may be required for some of the islands in the next 48 hours. Residents should complete their hurricane plans and be prepared to start to implement them.

AT 5 PM, the center of Tropical Storm Bret was located near latitude 11.3 North, longitude 42.2 West. Bret is moving toward the west near 21 mph (33 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue for the next several days. On the forecast track, the system should be approaching the Lesser Antilles late this week.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast, and Bret could become a hurricane in a couple of days.
