FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE: CURRENTLY, TROPICAL DISTURBANCE AL91 POSES A LOW THREAT TO MONTSERRAT; HENCE APART FROM CONTINUED MONITORING, NO OTHER ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED AT THIS TIME.

HOWEVER, A TROPICAL CYCLONE ALERT REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR MONTSERRAT FOR TROPICAL DISTURBANCE AL91.

THAT’S ACCORDING TO THE ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES IN A TROPICAL CYCLONE ALERT STATEMENT ISSUED EARLY MORNING, FRIDAY, 2 SEPTEMBER, 2022.

AT 8PM, THE DISTURBANCE WAS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 423 MILES EAST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND 614 MILES EAST OF THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS.

8AM UPDATE: A Tropical Cyclone Alert remains in effect for Montserrat for Tropical Disturbance AL91 which has changed little this morning!

Yellow Hill – Thursday, 1 September -According to a Tropical Cyclone Alert Statement Issued by The Antigua And Barbuda Meteorological Services on Wednesday morning, there are no watches or warnings in effect at this time for Montserrat; however, residents and visitors here are advised to monitor the progress of AL91!

At 8 o’clock Thursday morning, the Nationa Hurricane Center Advisory states that Disturbance AL91 located several hundred miles east of the Leeward Islands has changed little this morning. Although environmental conditions remain only marginally conducive, any additional development of the system over the next few days would lead to the formation of a tropical depression. The disturbance is forecast to move slowly west-northwestward, toward the adjacent waters of the northern Leeward Islands.

AL91 has an 80% or a high chance of becoming a Tropical Depression in 5 days and, a 60% in 48 hours.

We are still awaiting the Thursday morning Tropical Alert Statement from the Antigua And Barbuda Meteorological Services, and as soon as the information becomes available to us, the DMCA will release it.

Meantime, there are two other systems in the Atlantic; Tropical Depression Five and Tropical Disturbance 2, none of the systems is a threat to Montserrat.

The Disaster Management Coordination Agency, DMCA will continue to monitor Tropical Disturbance AL91 and provide regular updates as soon as information is released from the Antigua and Barbuda Met Services and the NHC.

Bittersweet News: Air Quality across Montserrat is in the Moderate Category, associated with a fresh Surge in the Saharan Dust in the Atmosphere!

According to an Air Quality Alert issued by the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services on Monday night, the air quality is forecast to fall to moderate levels as a result of particulate matters 2.5 and 10, associated with a fresh surge in the Saharan Dust. The threat of health problems is expected to become elevated, for mainly unusually sensitive people, such as asthmatics, and could potentially cause them limited health impacts.

Therefore, active children and adults, and, people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

The Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) is advising residents who are unusually sensitive to dust particles to be vigilant due tomorrow afternoon, due to moderate concentrations of Saharan dust in the atmosphere! Residents with respiratory issues such as asthma should keep windows and doors closed as much as possible.

The DMCA is further advising residents to limit dust entering their system as best as possible by using masks and protective eyewear. Any masks that filter small particles should be worn such as a surgical mask, N95 and KN95 when going outside.

Timing: Until Thursday.

Air quality index: 51 to 80

Alert Level: II

Sensitive groups: People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children are the groups most at risk.

Health implications: Air quality is acceptable; however, for some pollutants, there may be moderate health concerns for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.

Continue to monitor DMCA Facebook, Instagram and Twitter social media sites and our website http://dmca.gov.ms for daily weather updates, public advisories and warnings and information on the wide range of natural and man-made hazards that have the potential to impact Montserrat.
